You are correct that we need free time to be able to find room for improvements. I've recently moved to a role where I'm mostly supporting my team and the improvements I have been able to make have only happened from being removed from the daily development work.

I was always supposed to be working a little bit on improving the team and project, but I wouldn't consider myself successful until I started getting the free time to do it.
