When I started freelancing years ago, I failed to properly manage scope creep in my client’s projects.

I would accept any random change the client wanted. I managed both the code and the project, often leading to the project going off the rails. Clients would end up frustrated as projects missed deadlines and went over budget.

Once I worked with a client’s project manager, I realized how I could hire a project manager to help manage scope creep.

A project manager won’t say yes to every change a client wants.

Their job is to keep a project on track, even if that may be against a client’s wishes.

Most freelancers will say yes to anything to keep clients happy. Project managers can’t just say yes without failing at their job. They need to see the bigger picture before allowing a change into a project.
